A Story in Winter

It is hot! Oops, it is a winter’s story, isn’t it? So, it is cold.
Christmas is getting close and I have decided to visit my mother and all my family in Bohemia. It takes ten hours to arrive there by train… and this awful weather doesn’t help. But suddenly, something ‘heats’ me a little…

“Good morning, Miss…?”
“Margaret Smith, and I’m not Miss…”
“Oh… It’s cold here, isn’t it?”
“Maybe, but it will be hotter if you keep on flirting with me!”

And unexpectedly... A man shows up... her fat, ugly husband (I suppose)!

"Are you fine, dear?"
he says, looking furiously at me.
"Don’t worry my dear brother...this gentleman will not bother you anymore!"
“Ah-ha! So he is your brother, eh? If so, I dare you to a sword duel!” said I with the security of a young boy of eighteen who doesn't have the notion of danger at all…
"A duel? Do you know who I am?"
"No, why? Should I know?"
"Of course! I'm the well-known Smith, Peter Smith!"

And that's when the duel starts...and now, I already know why that ugly man is known...

This so-called Peter Smith was a tough adversary... Tougher than I thought, indeed...
But that could also have a good side... the lady's concern.
I don't know how or why... I just know that today we're together in Bohemia, near my mum's house... Me incapable of walking and she taking care of me (but Margaret is not too happy about it).

Perhaps this 'beautiful woman of the train' who is here with me feels guilty for her brother's actions... poor her... but good for me!

Scissor Sisters!! (Review)

Scissor Sisters are one of those flourishing new bands that nowadays fill our stereos and MP3 players with an unforeseen amusement so that you can’t ‘erase’ them from your mind (especially because of their peculiar name).

Released on the 18th September 2006, Scissor Sisters’ second album (called Ta-Dah) immediately reached Top 10 in the UK thanks to the main single I Don’t Feel like Dancing.

This new song became famous for its curious rhythm, being a mix of glam rock, psychedelia and disco. Nevertheless, we cannot forget the significant role of its special guest; Sir Elton John teamed up with Scissor Sisters not only as co-writer but also pianist.

The lyrics tell us the story of a man that prefers to stay at home rather than having fun… but that, simultaneously, is a bit envious of his friends… or even girlfriend (which is evidently proved when catchy verses like “Rather be home with no one when I can't get down with you”, “My heart could take a chance, but my two feet can't find a way” or “Looks like magic's solely yours tonight” echo as these four minutes and thirty seconds of pure delight go by.
If you watch its music video carefully, you’ll take in that there is a clear reference to some ancient films, in which the elements of the band itself are the actors.
However, it is said that I Don’t Feel Like Dancing resembles somehow Leo Sayer's hit You Make Me Feel Like Dancing (1970’s) due to the use of falsetto vocals.

Overall: a splendid tune characterised by its hilarious yet creative style and, once you listen to it, you literally ‘feel like dancing’.

On the Road...

This is the image I've chosen... a door (similar to a dimensional gate) surrounded by the dark blue sky...

Life is like a maze...
Sometimes you're confused and don't know exactly what to do. So, as if you were lost in a maze, you try to find a way to solve your problems... the EXIT door...

There's a way out, but you have to locate it before you can find the right boulevard... the road of true happiness...

And when you finally do it, you know that your hopes and dreams weren't in vain...

On the road

On the road

I think that this image represents very well the concept of “on the road”, because it represents the “steps” that we have to go up and down in our life.
Human life is like this image, people have to go up, “step by step”, sometimes in the dark, sometimes in the light, but being always what we really are and without forget that we could “fall” at any moment.
What I like most in this picture is the reflects of the trees on the water, because our life is like that, everything we do, will be reflected on the our next “step”.

On the Road

I choose this photo because I think it's connected with the rode of our life... is not allways plain and simple, like this stairs!
Everyday we are on the "road" (of life), and it's with a little help of " the stairs" that we grow up.

I love to travel and to be literaly on the road. Few things make me feel as fulfilled and free as when I am behind the wheel of a car, on my motorbike, or even on a plane getting ready to explore new places.

There are millions of images that one can identify with "The Road", but to me the first thought that comes to mind is exactly that, an open road and lots of miles to chew, I thrive on that feeling!!

So with that in mind I decided to post a photo of one of the most beatiful roads I've ever been on, hope you like it!!

Me and Myself...!

What can I say about myself?...

I was born in 1988 in Santarém, but I always lived in Coruche with my parents and brother (he's 24 years old).

When I was about 6 years old, I used to think that I wanted to be a nurse...
But then I kind of put it apart and, on 5th Grade, I found out that my real passion was being an English teacher or a reporter.
However, part of that 'passion' was literally over... In fact, the idea of being a reporter was a bit rushed...

So, on these last three years, I've decided that, in the future, I am going to be either an English teacher OR a translator.

And here I am on this course at Faculdade de Ciencias Sociais e Humanas, hoping to fulfil my dreams...

Beside my professional life...

I like almost all types of music, but my favourites are mainly Rock, Pop and R&B.
In my spare time, I can't help but ALWAYS having my MP3 player on! :D

I also love to read, especially stuff like the Harry Potter sagas or the classical love stories.
And another one of my obsessions is art... drawing and writing! :)

Yeah... I have NO idea what else to say, so... I guess it's time to say: See ya guys soon!!

Hi guys!!

Hi!
My name is João Coutinho, I'm 35 years old, and I live in Montijo, with my wife and two daughters.
As you can probably tell from the photo I spend quite a bit of time in the Middle East (Bahrain and Dubai). I used to live there, and return once or twice a year to visit my parents!
I'm very excited to be at Universidade Nova, and although my work is quite demanding I'm determined to "take this ship to port" !!
